Grandma always said...

Download word art here

My grandmother used to say that burning a green candle would bring money your way.

I really wish she had been a little more specific!  I've been burning a green candle since last weekend trying to get some major lottery money to come my way and it's not working!

Maybe my candle is broken.....

Dinner....it's not what it used to be!

So, check out this interesting  writing from one of my students...

I showed this to my principal and assured him that I wrote EXACTLY what the student read to me.  His eyes grew big as he asked.....

What are you teaching?

I, of course, replied with....

I don't know, but I'm planning a party and asking this kid to bring the brownies.

Maybe this explains why when I took the Facebook test about what my teaching personality was it said that I was "fun and easygoing".  LOL!

Fun!

Download word art here

I have completely enjoyed my long weekend and you wouldn't believe the sleep I caught up on!

Now I have to hit the bed because I won't get another one of these fabulous long weekends until the middle of February.

I really don't like the person that invented the 5 day work week!

The Magic Eight Ball is a Liar!

Download word art here

I should have known better! This has happened to me before!

I bought a ticket for the $194 million powerball and asked the magic ball if I was going to win.  It said that I was!

In my head I was already spending that money and planning how spectacularly I was going to quit my job.  I mean it's $194 million! I would need to budget, but I knew I would be OK.

I didn't win!  I didn't even match one single number!  The magic eight ball lied.....again!

After looking at the numbers I asked the magic eight ball if it would lie to me and it replied.....YES!

That little stinker!

The good news...for me anyway...is that no one won and the jackpot is worth even more money.

Does anyone have $2 I can borrow to buy another ticket?

Vegas, baby!

Download word art here

So, spring break is a couple of months away and I'm going to have a girl's week in Las Vegas!  We're going to use a time share week that my friend Susan has.

Our first choice of destinations was Washington DC.  Not because of politics or anything like that, but because we were hoping to catch the Cherry Blossoms in bloom.  We're so patriotic!  lol!  Sadly, there was nothing available there the week we want to go.

Our second destination choice was Gatlinburg.  I told you guys I loved it there!  Spending a week in the mountains in March should be much warmer than it was in November and just as pretty.  Sadly, the only thing available for us was a one bedroom condo and that just wasn't going to work.

So, my friend's husband, who was doing all the condo searches for us said there were some really nice availabilities in Vegas and we jumped on it!

So, now all I need is for March 20th to get here so I can go there!

I'll try to tell you guys all about the trip, but you know what they say.....

What happens in Vegas......

Oh, who am I kidding, I'll give you all the details!  lol!

Don't get mad if you're cold.....

Download word art here

I know it may be a little too soon to make another weather post for those of you that are cold, but I really need to share this story.

On Tuesday afternoon, I got in the car after school and the AC didn't seem to be working. I wasn't happy, but I didn't worry about it too much until I was going to school Wednesday morning and it still didn't seem to be working.

Now I was a little worried! Why wasn't it working? Why hadn't it fixed itself over night?

I suffered through a long day at work before getting in the car to go home only to find that my AC still hadn't fixed itself.  I drove home as fast as I could because it was very warm out!

I grab OCG and convince him that we need to take a drive in my car so he can try to figure what is wrong with my car.  I suggested that going for ice cream would be a great idea since there's no air and the car will be hot.

We get in the car and I quickly point out that you can feel the air blowing, but it's not cold.  He sits there for what feels like forever before he says anything.  I'm starting to think that we aren't going for ice cream because it's too hot in the car and he can't stand it when he finally speaks up.....

OCG:  your air isn't working? (Said more like a question than a statement of fact.)
ME: I know, right?

OCG just shook his head, reached over to the console and said,

Did you know that you need to push right here in order to actually turn the AC on?

It turns out that my AC works just fine when it is turned on.

If any of you happen to know Chuck Lorre could you ask him to call me.  I've got a great idea for a new TV character he might be interested in writing a comedy about.

HAHA!

Download word art here

So, you know how when someone gets or thinks they got a little bit of power they go all, "I'm the best! No one is better than me!" Crazy?

Well, that happened to one of the girls I work with this year.

We used to be friends. Now she's just someone I work with.

Everyone has some very nice (and by that, I mean very naughty) nicknames they now use behind her back.  I didn't make any of them up, but I certainly understand how she earned them.

On Tuesday we're all supposed to take our classes over to the main cafeteria for a fundraiser kickoff to promote those stupid "World's Finest Chocolate" sale that parents everywhere are tortured with every year.

Don't even get me started on how I think that company should be sued for false advertising because they DO NOT have the "World's Finest Chocolate"!

Also, you really DON'T want to get me started on how stupid it is that my principal thinks this is worthy of interrupting class time, but heaven forbid we give kindergarten kids an art project or take up an entire day right before Christmas reading The Polar Express and pretending to actually go to the North Pole!

Anyway, I'm in class Monday morning and there's a loud knock on the door and look up to see Ms. I'm Better Than Everyone In The Whole World standing there.

I felt sick. Nothing good ever comes of her intrusions.

Earlier in the year, I even told her that everytime she comes around I just want to slit my wrist.  She thought I was joking.

Not so much!

I open the door to have her ask me if I'm going to the fundraiser rally.  I say that I thought it was on Tuesday and not on Monday.  She informs me that I am wrong.  It was today and the principal even said it on the morning announcements.

I quickly line my class up as she moves on to the next door to let that teacher know she also forgot.

You see, she knocked on EVERY kindergarten teacher's door to let us know that she was wonderful and remembered we sucked and forgot.

We all rushed our kids over to the main campus only to find out that no one was waiting for us in the cafeteria.  We stood there and waited while I told everyone that I was pretty sure it was on Tuesday.

Eventually, my principal came out laughing because.....wait for it.....

I WAS RIGHT!

Score one for the underdog!

A wonderful wasted day!

Download word art here

I woke up early today and moved to the couch.  I then stayed there for 4 hours before I even thought of moving.  I wouldn't have moved then but I was hungry.  LOL!

OCG and my friends tried to talk me into going out tonight, but I explained that there was just no good reason to go out when anything we wanted could be delivered.  They weren't amused!  LOL!

I wonder if I can get by with this two days in a row.....

If it's really cold where you are.....

Download word art here

If it's really cold where you are this post is probably going to make you angry.  SORRY!

My friend Ingrid has never seen snow.  We were talking about it back when OCG and I were planning our Tennessee trip.  At that time we talked about getting some other friends to join us in taking a road trip up to the mountains after the holidays.

We got pretty excited and decided to start saving our money, so we would be ready when we decided to go.  Well, the holidays came and everyone got busy and we haven't really had time to talk about or plan our trip.

Wednesday night I was with Ingrid and we walked outside about 10:30.  It was cold, or at least, what those of us in Miami consider cold.

We were talking about it being cold and how we weren't dressed for the weather.  There was some lady standing close by and when she heard our conversation she spoke up and said that it was supposed to get down to 50* overnight.

This set Ingrid off!  She immediately started talking very loudly....."That's it, I'm not going to work tomorrow!  I can't leave my house when it's this cold!"

I just laughed and said that I thought we were going to need to postpone that mountain trip we were planning.

I haven't talked to Ingrid today, so I'm not sure if she went to work or not.  I did and the temps got up to 72*.  On Friday it supposed to be 79*.

Winter is rough!

Don't use a shoebox!

Download word art here

The second day back from vacation and I was actually more tired than I was on Monday. LOL!

The kids were just as tired and I felt like I had to work twice as hard to get any work from them.  In science we're talking about the similarities and differences in plants and animals.  I was trying everything I could think of to get them to realize that they both need space to grow.  I was getting nothing!

I asked if they had ever seen their moms or grandmothers take a plant and move it into a bigger flower pot.  They hadn't and a couple of them couldn't understand why a plant would be in a pot to begin with. I had to explain that a flower pot is very different from the pots their moms use when they cook dinner.

You have to remember that these are city kids and when we plant things at school we use the clear plastic cups so we can watch for roots.

I was getting desperate and it was almost lunch time so on top of being tired I was also a little hungry and maybe that's why I just couldn't think of something wonderful to say to that got through to them.

At least that's the story I'm going with.  LOL!

My abilities as a teacher reached an all time low when I asked if they were the same size now that they were when they were babies.  They responded with laughs and a very adamant "no".  So I continued on...."What if, when you were a baby, I had taken you and placed you in a shoebox.  Do you think you would have been able to grow as tall as you are now?

After I asked that question something happened in my room that NEVER happens.....there was quiet!  Everyone just looked at me and no one said anything until one little boy finally spoke up and said,

"That would be really mean."

Now, I need you to remember that I was tired and hungry so that you don't judge me too harshly.

I stood there with all of them staring at me and the only reply I could come up with was...

"I wasn't planning on putting the lid on the box."

Yeah, I'm going to try this lesson again tomorrow.

Wish me luck.

The hardest part...

Download word art here

The hardest part about going back to work was simply getting out of bed.  Seriously, I kept telling myself that if I would just get my lazy butt up I would be ok.  After hitting the snooze button  four times I finally did get up, but I really didn't want to.

I got to school and everyone looked so relaxed and rested and I said that we should take a picture of eeryone and then take another one on Friday and compare the two.  Another teacher said we wouldn't have to wait until Friday.  If we took a picture on Monday and another one on Tuesday we would already be able to see a difference.

It's sad, but true!

Anyway, I was having a normal day.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't fun and exciting either.  It was just kind of BLAH.  Then, I went over to the main campus and found a surprise waiting for me in my mailbox.  A package all the way from Australia!

That's when my day got exciting!

Two new books for my class, pretty shiny pencils and fun shaped erasers!  The kids said it was like Christmas all over again.  And it was...but better!

My assistant principal said, "Really, people just send you stuff?  Why?"

And I of course replied "Because we're awesome!"

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I gave my principal the transfer request form we have to fill out if we want to look for a job at another school.  He didn't seem to believe that I was serious.  I assured him that I haven't been lying about how unhappy I am and that if anything I've understated it.

My school that I once loved so much has changed.  My grade level and the people I work with have changed.  The girls I traveled to London and Paris with have retired, moved on to other schools or have been forced to move to another grade level. I'm the sole survivor and it's lonely and sad.

It's time for me to move on to new adventures now too.  Once I finally made that decision I became instantly happier.  I don't know where the next school year will find me, but I'm looking forward to it!

After school I had to fight the afternoon traffic heading to the mall which is never fun.  I had to go get the security sensor removed from a pair of pants that I bought right after Christmas.  I didn't realize that they left it on there until I pulled them out to wear.  Isn't that how it always is?

Anyway,  I get to the mall explain that I bought the pants in another town right after Christmas, that I don't have the receipt but that I did use my Macys card so they could look it up to make sure I didn't steal them.  The girl was super nice and removed the sensor without any questions.  I was in and out of the mall in no time.

I decided that since I had survived another day at work and the afternoon traffic and that since I was so close to my favorite cupcake place I deserved a treat.

Seriously guys, these things are awesome!  They are so awesome that they caused a serious fight between OCG and I.  You see, he had the nerve to eat 3 of my cupcakes.

Seriously!

I have no problem with him eating one, but three!?!?

Here's how that conversation went...

OCG:  What's the big deal?  You still have three left.
ME: That's just it, I ONLY bought 6!
OCG:  What...
ME: What am I supposed to eat for breakfast now?
OCG:  Do you hear the things you say?
ME:  Do you?

My remaining cupcakes are well hidden!

Now, I have to ask you guys a very serious question..

.Who watched Galavant?

I recorded it on Sunday night and watched it this afternoon when I got home and I am so glad I did.  It was just so ridiculously corny and bad that it was awesome! I read a review that said "Galavant is perfect, Thank God it's only 8 episodes"

There's singing and  bad jokes and a really hot guy and an even hotter John Stamos!  AWESOME!

In one scene there's this nerdy little chef talking nervously to the king and explaining that the king had killed the last four generations of chefs in his family.  Then he says, "This isn't  a very good job."  I laughed until I cried!

You need to watch this show!  I promise you'll find it just as badly perfect as I do!

The closer it gets to Monday...

The closer  it gets to Monday the more depressed I get.

This isn't just your normal, "I don't want vacation to end" kind of dread either.  Everyone I have talked to wants time to stand still so we don't have to go back.

It's really bad guys!

Before the break started I was talking to one of the guys I work with and he said,

"I'm 52 years old, I teach in a moldy trailer and I ask myself, 'How much more depressing can my life be?'..  Then...this year happened."

That, my friends, pretty much sums up the feelings of everyone I work with at this point.

This year happened

I'm counting down the days.....97 more school days and then hopefully...a change for the better...
In the mean time, I'll continue on with my marathons of The Walking Dead and Shameless.  I'll drink margaritas and eat ice cream. I will make fun of Orange Croc Guy and the rest of my friends. I will also, probably, disappear with my camera a time or two.
