The Day Ginger Snapped part 11

"Ginger, I'm so glad you finally answered your phone. I want to tell you a couple of things before you call the bar today."

I couldn't decide if Bonnie sounded scared or worried or both and that scared and worried me.

"Has something happened? Bonnie, is everything OK?" I looked around as I waited for her answer.

"Oh, everyone is just fine. It's you I'm worried about. No one has heard from you in a couple of days and we didn't know where you were. Gail has started a petition at school to force you to come back and seek serious medical attention." Bonnie tried to laugh, but I could still hear the worry in her voice.

"Just how does Gail plan on enforcing that petition if no one knows where to find me?" I questioned.

"Well, I don't think she has thought it through that far. Besides, no one is signing it anyway. I don't think you realize how much money people have riding on this."

"But it's only the regulars at the bar that are betting money, right?"

There was no response from Bonnie. "Oh my God, Bonnie, please tell me it's only the regulars at the bar!" I tried to keep my voice quiet, but it was getting hard.

"Well, it has kind of gotten a little bigger than that." Bonnie answered hesitantly.

I swallowed hard and closed my eyes, "Bonnie, just how much bigger has it gotten?"

"Well, do you remember that big American Idol party we went to a few years back when that girl from here made it to the finals?"

"Oh my God..."

"Calm down! I was going to tell you that it's not quite that big yet. Do you know some guy named Alden Cassidy?" Bonnie tried to quickly change the subject.

"No. Who? Wait, I think he's a writer that I met on the plane into Charlotte. Why?"

"He called the bar looking for you. He left his number with Hal and asked him to give it to you. Is he cute? Do you want the number?"

"Yes, he's cute and no, I do not want the number." Inside my tummy was doing little somersaults!

Alden Cassidy, the most beautiful man in the world had called me!

"What's wrong with him? Is he another loser?"

"Oh Bonnie, I think he's about as far from being a loser as they come." He's wonderful. "I don't want the number because he just wants to use me to write some cheesy story to make fun of me and have even more people laughing."

"Do you want me to call the number and tell him to go to hell?"

"Thanks, but don't bother. He'll forget all about me soon enough. I better hang up and call back on the bar phone."

"OK, but if anyone asks, you haven't talked to me."

"You got it. Thanks for calling."
